This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for materialism in this director's delightfully tacky film adaptation regarding the shamed TV preacher and her criminal husband. Andrew Garfield plays the venal Jim, who states at the beginning, asserting religious justification for riches. He and Tammy Faye set about capitalizing on the people's religious faith. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, overdone appearance and hypocrisy, though the lead actress achieves to depict the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, on Film4
